Finding Chikakane

The search for our missing link

About

My name is Sarah and I’m missing a quarter. A very important quarter. A quarter of who I am and where I come from.

I’m trying to trace the family of my grandfather, a man named on his death certificate as Mamoru Chikakane. We’re told he was Japanese. He died young, when my father was just 2 years old. And because things got a little complicated soon after, any and all information and connection to his family was lost.

I’m looking for clues and connections. If you have some, please get in touch.

    Hi Sarah,
You need to know the village where your grandfather originated in order to get your koseki. I specialize in Japanese American records, haven’t done any Japanese in England, but my guess is there are some similarities. Look for passports, citizenship papers, or alien registration records if he was not naturalized, marriage record, birth certificates of his two sons. Feel free to email me at tlokazaki@aol.com.

Thank you so much for getting in touch Linda. We’ve located birth certificates, death certificate and some hospital records, but unfortunately nothing which gives us the Japanese place of origin for our grandfather. It feels like that is the key to unlocking our search. If we find that vital clue, we may well be in touch again. Fingers crossed!

      Very best wishes,
      Sarah
